Privacy Policy

Your screen, your voice, your call.

Last updated: July 4, 2026

The short version

  • TryUncle is a macOS app that helps you learn DaVinci Resolve. To do that, it looks at a screenshot of your screen and listens when you hold the talk shortcut.
  • Your screenshots, voice, and messages are sent to AI providers only to generate your answer. We don't sell your data and we don't use it to train our own models.
  • Nothing is captured in the background. Screenshots and audio are taken only when you ask a question — never while you sit idle.
  • Screenshots saved for quality and support are automatically deleted after 30 days.
  • You can ask us for a copy of your data or to delete it any time at hello@tryuncle.com.

1. Who we are

TryUncle ("TryUncle," "we," "us," or "our") makes a macOS assistant that teaches you DaVinci Resolve by watching your screen, understanding what you're trying to do, and pointing at the exact control you need. This policy explains what information the app and our website (tryuncle.com) handle, why, and the choices you have.

If you have any questions about this policy or your data, email us at hello@tryuncle.com.

2. How TryUncle works

TryUncle lives in your Mac's menu bar. When you ask a question — by holding the push-to-talk shortcut and speaking, or by typing into the panel — the app takes a screenshot of your screen (or just the DaVinci Resolve window), reads the labels of the on-screen controls, and sends that together with your question to AI models that produce an answer, a spoken response, and a pointer that flies to the right control.

This is important: the app only captures your screen and microphone at the moment you ask something. There is no background recording, no always-on listening, and no continuous screen monitoring.

3. Information we collect

Screen captures

To answer a question, TryUncle captures a screenshot of the DaVinci Resolve window or your connected displays. Screenshots of the app's own windows are excluded. These images are sent to our AI providers so the assistant can "see" what you see and point accurately. Screenshots are captured only when you ask a question.

Voice audio and transcripts

When you use push-to-talk, the audio you speak is streamed to a speech-to-text provider and turned into a transcript. The transcript becomes your message to the assistant. We capture microphone audio only while you hold the talk shortcut.

Messages you type

If you type into the chat panel instead of speaking, that text is your message to the assistant and is handled the same way as a transcript.

On-screen control information

To point precisely, TryUncle reads the macOS accessibility information exposed by DaVinci Resolve — the labels, roles, and positions of visible controls (for example "Saturation" or "Add Node"). This is used to locate the control you need. It does not read the contents of your other apps.

Installed Resolve setup

So guidance matches your actual setup, the app scans for the names and counts only of relevant installed items: DaVinci Resolve plugins (OFX), audio plugins, LUTs, title/effect templates, installed font families, and your Resolve edition and version. We never read the contents of those files, your media, or your Documents and Desktop. This snapshot is uploaded only when it changes.

Account information

To use the app you sign in with Google. We receive and store your email address to identify your account and to verify your membership. Billing and subscription status are handled through our payments provider and matched to your email.

Usage and diagnostic data

We keep records of your interactions to run, debug, and improve the product — such as your message and the assistant's reply, which model was used, token and cost metering, pointing outcomes, and screenshots associated with a given turn. We also generate anonymous identifiers for each app install, session, and interaction so these records can be linked together and so we can measure reliability. We do not send your screenshots, voice, or message content to our product-analytics tool — that tool receives only aggregate events (for example, "a message was sent," its length, and which permission was granted).

4. How we use your information

  • To generate the assistant's answers, spoken responses, and on-screen pointing.
  • To tailor guidance to the plugins, LUTs, fonts, and Resolve version you actually have.
  • To operate your account, verify your membership, and meter usage and costs.
  • To debug failures, improve accuracy, and make the product more helpful over time.
  • To provide support when you contact us.
  • To protect against abuse and keep the service secure.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your screenshots, voice, or messages to train our own AI models.

5. Service providers we share data with

TryUncle does not call AI providers directly from your Mac. Your requests pass through our secure proxy, which holds all API keys, and are then sent to the providers below only to deliver the feature you asked for. Each provider processes the data on our behalf.

ProviderWhat we sendWhy

We may add or change providers as the product evolves and will update this list when we do. Each provider is bound by its own terms and privacy commitments and may process data in the United States or other countries.

6. How long we keep your data

  • Screenshots saved for quality and support are set to expire and be deleted 30 days after they are captured.
  • Account data (your email and membership) is kept for as long as you have an account.
  • Usage, diagnostic, and message records are retained to operate, troubleshoot, and improve the service, and are deleted or anonymized when no longer needed for those purposes.
  • Your installed-setup snapshot is kept and refreshed only when it changes, and is removed when you delete your account.

You can ask us to delete your data at any time — see "Your choices" below.

7. How we protect your data

All API keys for AI providers live on our server proxy, never in the app, so nothing sensitive ships to your device. Screenshots and diagnostic records are stored in private storage that is not publicly accessible, protected by row-level security, and reachable only by our backend. Data is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and limit access to it.

8. macOS permissions

The app asks for macOS permissions only for the features that need them, and macOS prompts you before each one:

  • Screen Recording / Screen Capture — so the assistant can see your screen to answer and point.
  • Accessibility— to read Resolve's on-screen control labels and move the pointer.
  • Microphone — for push-to-talk voice input only. Typing works without it.

You can review or revoke these at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

9. Your choices and rights

You can request access to, a copy of, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and you can object to or ask us to restrict certain processing. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. We do not sell your personal information.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@tryuncle.comand we'll respond within a reasonable timeframe. You can also stop all capture at any time by not asking a question, revoking macOS permissions, or deleting the app.

10. Children

TryUncle is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product changes. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above, and for significant changes we'll provide a more prominent notice. Continued use of TryUncle after an update means you accept the revised policy.
